About Greater New Bern Prays

National Day of Prayer (NDOP) has had a presence in NEW BERN for over well 30 years and THE EMPOWERED NETWORK has led this effort since 2005. The torch was passed and we carry it to its next destination.  NDOP prayer turns 72 this year!  What is NDOP? Why is it needed? Who participates in this powerful tradition?  The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day Prayer as the first Thursday in May. Millions participate every year across the nation. There have been challenges to this day, but it has stood the test of time. Presidents have come and come, governors have come and gone, some have not given a proclamation for the day, but most have.  Our main theme here in our region is always “the nations” because all of us a part of one nation, The church, Body of Christ, a child of the King and we can be sure of this because the Bible tells me so. We are also part of a cultural nation that we know not every part. So we come together under the absolute, a member of the nation of Christ.
